What is Coral Prepreg?
Coral is a line of bio-based high melt epoxy resin offering improved water absorption and high-impact resistance and suitable for rapid no-off gassing processing like press moulding and other out of autoclave processing.
Prepregs are available with carbon, glass, cellulose, and flax textiles ( UD or woven) with one sided impregnation, differential tack or full two sided impregnation.
All checked by means of safe quality inspection during and after the impregnation process.
Coral Epoxy PrePreg is ideal for semi-structural components, high-impact absorption or aesthetics parts in the marine, transportation, sport and architectural industries. The resin's low density at about 1.1 SG, offers lower parts weight than compared to traditional epoxy resins.
Additionally, with Coral you can expect a strong resistance against salty water, ketons or ither similar harsh environments.
Why use Coral Prepreg?
Environmental sustainability and more health-respectful working conditions.
If you required a composite part with very high bio-content and medium strength but high impact resistance then inquiry to us for the Coral with Flax fibres or Cellulose fibres. You can consider applications such as sport vehicles exteriors, sporting equipment, protective panels for cars interiors, and boat-hulls or dinghies.
Particularly, Flax prepreg is also great also for aesthetics and vibrations damping and some of the most common applications in this respect are respectively musical devices, sporting equipment, and car exteriors and interior veneers, indoor decorative panels, every-day goods.
. .and, in terms of processing?
Coral Epoxy Prepreg can be cured at temperature as low as 85°C or as high as 150C, depending on size and oven type equipment. The typical recommended schedule include a 30 min dwell at 100C followed by a another 30 min to 1 hour at 120C, depending on the wall thickness. However, rapid cure in closed press moulding can be achieved with a min of 45 minutes at 120°C up to 15 minutes at 140C.
The resin flow is medium and enough to easily wet out heavy reinforcements, and guarantee good consolidation in very thick laminates, under just vacuum bag pressures. Drape and tackiness allow to use this product also on curvy and irregular surfaces.
Coral has a tack life of about 28days at 23C, under stable and dry conditions. Long term storage in freezer has an estimated shelf-life on 1 year.
Case-studies:
1. The World First Racing and WMG worked on the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 student formula cars by applying the coral epoxy prepreg in cellulose.
2. One of our collaborators tests successfully the use of the Flax Coral.
3. The Flax UD 300gsm by Bcomp is used successfully for manufacturing a novel bicycle frame model, successfully passing the safety standard for racing bikes.
